Window screens lead a rough life in Eastern Washington. Between wind, dust, UV exposure, curious pets, and the occasional errant baseball, most homes in the Tri-Cities have at least one screen that has seen better days. When a Repair Is All You Need

If the frame is straight and the corners are solid, new mesh is usually the answer. Re-screening is quick and affordable, and modern mesh options are a real upgrade over what came with the house:

• Standard fiberglass — the economical workhorse for most windows.
• Pet-resistant mesh — roughly seven times stronger, ideal for doors and low windows.
• Solar screens — block a significant share of solar heat before it ever reaches the glass, which matters in our 100-degree summers.

When Replacement Makes More Sense

A screen is past saving when the frame is bent, corroded, or racked out of square — a warped frame will never sit tight in the track, and gaps around the edge defeat the purpose. The same goes for missing spline channels or corners that crumble when you press on them.

A Quick DIY Check

Press gently on the center of the mesh. It should flex and spring back. If it tears, powders, or stays stretched, the mesh has UV rot and will fail this season. Then check the frame on a flat surface — if it rocks, it is bent.
